To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing to apply for the C++ Game Engineer position for Minecraft Bedrock. I believe that my background makes me uniquely suited for this position, and I hope you will consider me.

I have been an avid gamer for over 30 years, and a big fan of Minecraft for over 10. I will admit that the first time I played Minecraft (in beta), I didn't fully "get it". I returned to it later and I had a moment that I will forever remember, when I first crafted a boat and crossed the ocean. I came to what I thought was another island, and then it dawned on me that the world went on practically forever. It was then that I realized the infinite potential of Minecraft, and I immediately wanted more.

I soon found the hMod community and began hacking away. I was particularly enamored with the idea of server-side modding, that I could craft a new experience for players without them having to download or mod anything themselves. Minecraft could become something new and unique with every server a player visited. I was hooked.

A decade later and I am still modding, now on the Bukkit platform, working on what is effectively the same codebase. I have grown my plugin into a flexible framework used by hundreds of servers, often for very different experiences.

Professionally, I have been in and out of the gaming industry twice in my career. I worked on some console games in the PS2/PS3 era, and later worked on social games for Facebook and mobile. These experiences were great for me, and gave me a lot of insight into how the game industry works.

In between those gaming dev careers I have gained a wide range of experience in web, UI and database technologies that I can leverage for creating and maintaining toolsets and other backend systems.

I think I could be a great asset to Mojang and Minecraft, it's something for which I have a long-standing passion and it would be an honour to contribute to its future!

While my Minecraft dev experience is entirely on the Java side, I do have game development experience in C++ and I do not anticipate a difficult transition.

I currently live in the United States with my wife and 2 children, but we are willing and excited to relocate to Sweden. The culture and landscape is very appealing to us, and we are looking for a change.

Thank you for your consideration!
Sincerely,

Nathan Wolf
