To whom it may concern,
I am writing to apply for the "Gameplay Programmer" position.
Firstly, let me say that
Hello Games has been an inspirational story of what a game company can be.
The vision, determination, and persistence shared by your team is a rarity, and I would be proud to join you.
I am particularly excited about
Light no Fire, it looks like an amazing new IP that could redefine what a game can be.
My career has taken me in and out of the gaming industry over the years. I worked on two console games in the
PS2/PS3 era, and then later led a small team creating social games for Facebook and mobile.
While my game experience is mostly on the backend, I do have some modern frontend development experience as well. I've worked
with Unity and Unreal professionally, and have gone in-depth with Unity and Gamemaker as a hobbyist.
In between those gaming dev positions I have gained a wide range of experience in web, UI and database technologies
that I can leverage for creating and maintaining toolsets and other backend systems. I have been an active professional developer
for over 25 years, and started programming when I was 11 years old.
During my time away from the gaming industry, I have been working on a popular open-source project in my spare time.
This project gives
Minecraft
server owners the power to create unique experiences for their players. The flexible item, skill
and class systems are able to support a wide variety of playstyles including Star Wars, D&D and GTA-type games.
However,
Minecraft as an engine has limitations and what I really want to make has always been out of reach
for me as an independent developer.
My dream game to develop would be an MMORPG within an expansive and malleable sandbox world.
The freedom of a game like
No Man's Sky, coupled with a
flexible system of RPG-style character customization would make
for a never-before-seen experience.
In particular, I would love to see an organic class system with magic and skills that are
as deep as the game's world is wide.
Light no Fire is looking like it could be that dream game that I have always wanted to help create,
and I am so excited that you're creating it.
I think I could be a great asset to
Hello Games and would be eager to apply my creativity to this new direction
the company is taking.
My family and I currently live in the United States, but we are willing and excited to relocate if
that is required or desirable for the company.
Thank you for your consideration!
Sincerely,
Nathan Wolf
